Health Care For All Kids Paid For Only By Smokers?

Please read this completely before you answer.
How is this fair? They want to increase that Federal Excise tax on cigarettes by $1.00 per pack to pay for healthcare for all children. Why should only smokers pay for this? This implies that children of non-smokers get a freebie. If a smoker and non-smoker each have no kids, why should only the smoker pay for something that applies to everyone? Why not tax something most everyone uses – like milk, or pop, or bread, or shampoo?

I don’t think that $1 per pack will buy much healthcare for kids in general. Believe me, smokers aren’t the only ones paying for healthcare. But the problem is that smokers do affect more than just themselves with their smoking. If they smoke inside their home anyone else living in there will be affected by the smoke, and when they are in public places people around them are affected by the 2nd hand smoke. Because the smoker is affecting more than just themself with their smoke that’s why they are paying for healthcare for more than just themself.
We adults have to pay for the healthcare of the kids, can’t expect the kids to pay for their own healthcare.

Which “they” is this who want to do this? You don’t specify – is it a bill that’s been introduced in Congress, or some anti-smoking organization?

Where do you get the idea that only smokers pay for children’s healthcare? That couldn’t be further from the truth.

They should put a little tax on everything to go to health care for children.. I would have no problem at all paying a little more for that.. that just me though in an ocean of many
