How Many Kids Can You Babysit Before You Need To Get A Second Helper?

I’m babysitting 3 kids possibly 4 and I’m just wondering if there is a limit on how many kids you can babysit in Ohio, USA.

I could see there being rules for licensed childcare providers, but, while I don’t actually know the answer to this question, I’d be astonished if there are rules for just regular babysitting.
If a parent can have 6 or more kids of her own and is allowed watch her kids on her own, why wouldn’t she be allowed to leave her kids with someone else who’s watching them? That would make no sense whatsoever.

Toronto laws for us are: You can only babysit a maximum of five kids if you are doing it through an agency and are not allowed to babysit out of an apartment. However, if you are babysitting privately, there are not rules. I don’t know if it’s the same in Ohio or not.

Four is usually the limit, after that you’ll need another sitter.
Oh, and it depends on age, if they are all over like 2years old then you can have five kids.

It’s usually 5 – but you need to ask the state about this because you don’t want it to effect your licensing. It usually also depends on the ages of the kids. I know in California you could watch a certain amount of kids, but if they were under 2 it changed.

It would depend on the ages too, I believe. If you’re looking after 4 children under the age of two, it would probably be a wise idea to get a helper. But I’m not sure if there is a legal limit, what it is.

Depends on the state that you are in. In NJ it is 4 per adult
