Coverage can only be expanded to children from families earning up to 200 percent of the poverty level (for a family of four that's $21,000) or 50 percentage points higher than the state had previously covered under Medicaid. Applicants must be uninsured at the time of application (the length of time uninsured varies by state, though), not eligible for Medicaid or state employee coverage through a parent.

Kids health insurance?. If you both do not have jobs how are you paying for health insurance? You both smoke, do you even care about your childrens health? What are you asking? For free smokes? Learn and educate yourselves so that you can bring your kids up in the healthy way and that means NO SMOKES.

You may not qualify, and it will take awhile for this law to get funding and to be implemented. Stick with you insurance--I'm sure it will take several months to enact this law. It will be done through the states as it is currently done, so check with your legislator and/or department of health about it.

You should check if your included first. It might just be for low income families or people that make below X amount.

If you don't have jobs then you wouldn't be able to pay it for much longer anyway.
Many people who had a sick child would have to give up working just to get on aid so they could get insurance.
People have ended up loosing everything they worked for because insurance companies messed them over and said they would not cover things people thought were covered.
At least this way people can now take any work they can get even if it is a couple of part time jobs and get off state assistance without having to worry about insurance for a child.
