If you go to the page for associations and find the one for your area you can get the contact person for youth athletics and find teams to practice with and go to meets. Try looking at the activities offered by your local park district. You might have more luck in the summer because these types of camps and clubs are usually held outside. Many schools also have cross-country running starting in these grades. A school in a suburb or town with a track on campus or access to the high school's track will probably have both, but smaller, more rural schools may just have cross-country teams. Both are excellent running sports for kids. You may want to check and see where the closest track is to your school, or the middle school your elementary campus feeds into, and try to find out more about what they have to offer. You would most likely be able to go run on the track as a family after school hours, and you could also take the kids to see some track meets to help spark their interest.
