Kid's social lives are more important to them than their education. As for the computer games, most kids would rather do nothing than homework. I'm 13. I don't know if I have great parents or if it's just me, but I've never thrown a tantrum of any kind, and I always do homework or chores when I'm supposed to, as long as I remember them.

NO, kids do not know that what ever you're doing is for their best interest. Why? Because they're kids. You should have a set tv scedhule, meaning they get to watch 2 hours of tv/computer and then the rest of the time is used for homework and/or studying. Use discipline, not physically, but I mean by, take their ipod or psp away if they break a rule.

Because they don't realize that those things have no real value. So they rather do what's cool and what they see their friends doing. Most of the time the kids don't realize their parents only want what's in their best interest. It's fine for them to want to do things that are enjoyable.
But it's always important to remember work comes before play. And doing homework so you can get good grades so you can eventually get a good job is what's truly important. That's why it's so important for parents to be there to remind them this and give discipline.
