It’s an interesting situation. The kids are teenagers and the parents are already separated. They split times with the kids, but instead of each of them getting there own place and the kids going back and forth the kids are staying in the family home full time and the parents are going back and forth between separate homes they have acquired.

He eventually ended up playing piano for a traveling circus while his brother learned and played the banjo. In the end, they go back home as the great depression lifts.
