Breastfeeding In Public – Tips For New Mothers

Breast feeding you child, makes sense because there is less to put in the diaper bag; making it easier to
transport baby and easier to comfor him or her at any given time. There are concerns mothers face when breast feeding, one of which is nursing in public. The concern usually takes a heavy toll on women more than the actual task of nursing. More often, the only people that take notice are the mothers who are breast feeding their own chldren.
Most women have discoverd discreet approaches in breast feed in public, as not to offend other people in the area. If you are out with a friend or partner, you can ask their assistance, by providing cover while you prepare to nurse. Once your baby is feeding you can adjust your clothing to cover what he or she is not, of your body. Other mothers incorporate a recieving blanket placed over thier shoulder that also covers their baby’s head.
When you are a visitor in someone’s home you may choose to use an empty room, so those around you don’t become uncomfortable. If you are in a shopping mall or restaurant, you may choose to breast feed in the restroom or in your car, for added privacy.
Many public restrooms are becoming baby friendly. They have been equipped with benches or a chair and changing table. Many shopping malls now provide special “mother rooms” so you can breast feed in private. This helps with sensitive babies; that get distracted by the public and won’t nurse. However, babies adapt quickly and will quickly learn to nurse without fussing.
Another option for mother that breast feed; is pumping your milk before you leave home, then offer your baby bottles in public. Remember, there is a draw back to this option. Offering an infant the artificial nipples on bottles early in the first weeks can and most likely will interfere with the ability to breast feed.
When deciding to breast feeding in public places, always do whatever you find works best. remember, the first weeks of breast feeding, it is just as new for you and your new baby. In time, you’ll both have no problem with the task of breast feeding.
If at any time you are not comfortable nursing in a location, you should no attempt the task. You must be able to be comfortable and relaxed; you baby will sense your tension and fuss instead of nursing. When your baby senses you’re comfortable and relaxed, he or she will not have a problem nursing. The two of you will do fine.

Throwing A Baby Shower – 5 Tips To Get You Started

Posted on December 9th, 2009 in Articles by Tangkau

Papenting tips

Putting together a baby shower is a tough job. This isn’t just a casual get-together where you can call a bunch of people to come over. There is planning and lots of work that goes into putting a baby shower together.
The baby shower should be held about one or two months before the due date. This will ensure that it isn’t too close to the due date and that the mother will be able to bask in the aftermath of the party for some time. To help make things go smoothly there are some tips that you should follow. Pre-planning is the best way to make sure everything goes right the day of the party.
1. Find A Location
The first thing you have to do is pick a place for the party. Many parties are held at the homes of the soon-to-be grandparents or the expectant mother’s home. In this case, there is no lugging of packages afterward to bring the presents back home. However, there is the clean up to consider. If the shower is being held during the summer, you can have it outdoors as part of a barbeque.
If none of these places sounds like your idea of fun, you could rent a restaurant or a gathering hall for the affair. However, this is a more expensive option. At least the food will be handled and you don’t have to worry about clean up.
2. Pick a Theme
Picking a theme for the party is next on the list for the baby shower. This will help when it comes to picking decorations. There are many different themes that can be picked for a baby shower. Some of the more ambitious ideas would be to recreate the first date or the honeymoon of the parents-to-be. Another idea is to go with a complete baby theme such as having baby bottles part of the centerpieces or having a diaper cake.
Another theme to take into account is the baby’s gender. If you know the gender, this is going to help with the decorations. If not, there are plenty of neutral based ideas that you can pick.
3. Pick the Games
No baby shower is complete without a list of games for the program. This can be a number of games throughout the day that result in prizes for the guests. The prizes can be anything from plush toys to candles to picture frames. These games are important to keep the guests from getting bored.
Consider your guests when it comes to picking the games for your parties. You don’t want to pick games that many older people wouldn’t be interested in if your party is full of people over the age of 40.
4. Get the Menu Down
The menu is going to be important because people love to eat. Find foods that are suitable for all guests. If you have seafood, make sure you get something else for people who could be allergic. Also, don’t just have meat because there might be some guests who vegetarians and others who like to eat healthily.
However, the menu shouldn’t just be about food. Think about the drinks as well. Consider if you want to have alcoholic drinks at the party.
5. The Guest List
The guest list is going to include all of the important women in the expectant mother’s life. This should be family, friends and any close co-workers. Before you finalize the invitation list, check it over with the mom-to-be to make sure you aren’t missing anyone from the list. This is their party so they should have the final say in who is going to be there. The invitations should include time, place, date, RSVP information and where the parents are registered.

Baby Boomers Can Develop More Self-confidence With These 5 Tips

Posted on November 24th, 2009 in Articles by Tangkau

Papenting tips

Thinking about your retirement lifestyle can be a daunting experience at first. Imagining what your life will be like after retirement is filled with unknowns. Even people with great self-confidence or self-assurance can find that the thought of life after retirement creates uneasiness or even anxiety.  If you are a Baby Boomer, you are probably beginning to think about what your life will be like after retirement.  Easing anxiety is a matter of preparing for retirement in ways that build confidence in your future. Reducing uncertainties and knowing where you are going will reduce anxiety and build confidence. Planning and preparing now for your retirement lifestyle will build the confidence you need and build the foundation for a fulfilling retirement lifestyle. Baby Boomers can develop more self-confidence with these five tips about planning and preparation for a happy and fulfilling post-retirement lifestyle. 1.  Realistically analyze your financial situation.  Many Baby Boomers are facing life after retirement with a financial base that is totally different from that of their parents. The pension plans that ensure their financial security in retirement are largely gone today. It is important to be realistic about your financial needs and security in the future. Here are a few of the questions you need to ask yourself: §    Do I need to work after “retirement” to provide immediate financial support?§    Do I need to work after “retirement” to build an emergency fund or a nest egg?§    Do I feel confident of financial security for twenty or thirty years? §    Do I have an adequate emergency medical fund or adequate insurance? §    Do I have the money set aside to do the important things I want to do after “retirement”?§    Is it important to leave a financial legacy? Is it in place and secure? 2.  Plan to pursue your passions.  Pursuing your passions after “retirement” is what will create a fulfilling and exciting life.  What are the passions and dreams you want to pursue in your second phase of life?  Do you want to start your own business?  Do you want to find a way to give back to society?  Do you want to start a second career? Do you want to teach or mentor?  You need to think about the things you want to do that will fill your life with excitement and pizzazz.  Whether your passions involve working, travel, volunteering, developing skills into a profitable hobby, starting a business or traveling the globe, chances are that you will not just fall into a situation that will position you to pursue your passions.  But by planning, developing skills, learning, and putting the structures and support systems in place in advance, you can comfortably and smoothly transition into a lifestyle built around pursuing your passions in life. You can “fire up” your life by pursuing your passions! 3.  Plan where and how you will live.  It will create a surprising amount of self-confidence about your future if you decide and plan for where you want to live. It is also important to be realistic about what you can afford and about what your needs will be over time.  Many of us want to age in place – to stay in our homes as we grow older. But this is just not possible for everyone. There is home and yard maintenance to consider, both in terms of costs and activity.  Many of us live in homes that will become increasingly difficult to manage as we grow older because of stairs, etc.  It is also important to think about how you will get help with household chores if you should become unable to do things for yourself. And it is important to consider whether you will be socially isolated by remaining in your home.  Will you be happier in an apartment complex? Do you want the peace and quiet of a complex for people 55 and over? Do you want the assurance of care provided by progressive or continuing care communities?  Will you move in with your children at some point? Will one of your children or grandchildren move in with you?  Is the location close to the activities you want to pursue?  Deciding where and how you will live in the second phase of life will be the basis of your self-confidence as “retirement” approaches. 4.  Start now learning and developing skills you will need.  Whether you plan to work, start a business, take up a hobby, teach or volunteer, you might feel the need to develop some skills or learn new things.  Starting this learning process before retirement builds confidence in the future in several ways: §    The cost of training or instruction will be paid while you are still working and have more disposable income.§    The training or instruction will build your confidence in your ability to do what you want to do after retirement. §    Your transition into your planned retirement lifestyle will be easier, faster and smoother because you will simply step from one thing to the next at your desired pace. §    You will build increasing confidence that “this will work”The knowledge that you have the new skills and the transferable skills to do the things you want to do in the second phase of life will reduce anxiety on many fronts – finances, happiness, security, meaningful activity.  In addition, all learning makes people feel more self-confident as they look to the future. 5.  Create a plan.  Nothing you can do will build greater self-confidence about your life after retirement than having a plan for what you want your life to be and how you will get from where you are now to where you want to be in the second phase.  Your plan doesn’t have to be elaborate and it doesn’t have to look like a corporate strategic plan.  You just need to think realistically and creatively about how you want to live your life, what you will need to support it, and how to get from where you are now to where you need to be to have that lifestyle.  If you follow these five tips — Realistically analyze your financial situation, plan to pursue your passions,  plan where and how you will live,  start now learning and developing skills you will need, and  create a plan – you will be well on the way to more self-confidence in the future. Whether you are a Baby Boomer or not, following these five tips will make you more self-confident about your future.

Why Do People Feed Their Kids Unhealthy Food And Then Wonder Why They Have Health Probs?

Posted on August 10th, 2009 in Articles by Tangkau

I was watching this show where the mom was going on a diet and was changing her lifestyle etc to lose weight and then they show her eating with her daughter. The mom was eating a salad and the kid was eating a burger. And this wasn’t just a one time thing. The poor kid ate mostly junk through the whole program.
Why would someone give themself good food and their kid bad food?
And then why later on would they wonder why their kid is morbidly obese?

Any Travel Tips For People Traveling With Their Babies?

Posted on August 8th, 2009 in Articles by Tangkau

I traveled with my oldest son by myself when he was only 10 weeks old. Remember that a stroller does not count as a checked bag if you need to take one. I suggest using a sling/carrier while in the airport so you have both hands free. Also I brought my boppy and after I nursed he fell right to sleep and slept on the boppy (still around my waist) the entire time. Also remember to nurse or give bottle during take off and landing to help their ears. I think it is easier to travel with babies than it is with toddlers sometimes. The couple sitting behind me didn’t even know there was a baby on board until the flight was over!
