I’m just starting massage school, too. I’m definitely considering prenatal massage since it’s a very gentle and soft modality.

It may just look like it’s just rubbing lotion to some but anything more than just rubbing can cause problems for the mama and baby, especially in the legs, where there could be blood clots. S: This vid was real easy to follow. Great job!

The power of touch is amazing, its no wonder they say massage your baby to calm it when its crying or for bed. I got all goosbumpy watching this.

I have heard that the left is the best, but my doctor has told me that the right side is fine, since I have incredible round ligament pain when I lay on my left side. I had the same issues on my first pregnancy and this one as well.

That statement is not true. Your heart is on your left side so therefore laying on your right side lets your heart lay against muscles to cushion it, getting more O2 to the heart and rest of body. The left side just pushes against your rib cage, crushing it. People should sleep that way too.

Therapist can wear flat wedding band type rings. It is not felt by the client.

It would be nice if she included draping technique.

sleeping on the left helps with the flow of your bowels. That’s why massage therapist go clockwise while massaging the stomach. And since pregnant women tend to be constipated, left side is recommended.

No, you want to avoid deep pressure on the popateal on any massage since it’s an endangerment- zine do to all the nerve-endings & blood vessels there. Blood clot in ANY one in any stage is a contraindication to massage. If it broke free then it could cause a stroke.

Avoid deep pressure on the legs bcuz, not only the trigger points, but also they pregpp are PRONE to getting blood clots. If u see any signs of a blood clot, don’t massage & refer them to a doctor

I need to show this to my boyfriend! I really want a massage, insurance doesn’t pay for a prenatal massage, and during the time I have now lost sight of below the belly: I have discovered I have newly formed cankles from the swelling! :( He tries, and I appreciate it, but he doesn’t know what to do and sometimes makes me more sore…

So many pregnant woman suffer from aches and pains. Pregnancy massage can not only help ease these aches but also helps with stress.

    Right side. Always.

Because if she’s on her left side, the baby could roll over onto the veins that return blood to the heart and brain, which are on the left side. PREGNANT WOMEN HAVE DIED BECAUSE THEY GOT SIDE-LYING MASSAGES ON THEIR LEFT SIDES AND HAD INTERRUPTED VENOUS RETURN.

I’m also going to say what my teachers have told me: Don’t “be mindful” on the ankles. Just avoid them altogether. It just isn’t worth the risk.

I would also like to add that you should avoid the Hoku Point, an acupressure point in the webbing between your thumb and index finger. Spread them wide. Now (UNLESS YOU’RE PREGNANT), squeeze in between them to find that really tender spot. Found it? That’s your Hoku Point. You have one in each hand.

Pressure on the Hoku Point causes smooth muscle tissue to relax. That’s what’s in the lining of the uterus. Its constant contractuion is what folds the baby in. Relaxation = bad.

Pregnancy massage can be beneficial for mother and baby.massage therapy reduces pain in pregnant women, alleviates prenatal depression in both parents and improves their relationships.
